Why replace
Some ducts are past cleaning.
Most ducts just need a good cleaning, and that’s what we’d tell you to do. But when a run has failed — torn, chewed open, or grown through with mold — cleaning can’t bring it back, and replacing it is the honest fix.
It just wears out
Flex duct sags and tears, sheet metal corrodes and pulls apart at the seams. After enough years a run closes off or leaks, and one vent stops blowing while the system runs and runs.
Something got into it
Rodents and other animals chew straight through ductwork and nest inside it. Once a run is torn open and fouled that way, there's no cleaning it back — the section has to come out.
Mold spread through the run
When mold gets into old ductwork it grows through the material itself, not just on the surface. You can't clean that back to clean — the duct is the problem, so the duct is what gets replaced.
